On May 14, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., called the project "particularly offensive" because "so many Muslim leaders have failed to speak out against radical Islam, against the attacks" of 9/11.King had said in an interview with radio and television host Sean Hannity that 85 percent of the mosques in this country are controlled by “extremist leadership,” a comment that prompted strong condemnations from many religious organizations and from the Democratic National Committee.
